[Advertising] Does Internet is just another new advertising medium?
The debate is all over the internet and advertising industry for a long time. Advertising fellar like Sir Martin Sorrell, CEO of WPP Group said that "Internet is just another new medium." Of course he had to say that in the favour of his clients and coworkers. This article from Advertising Age had a comprehensive discussion over this topic.
IMHO, Internet will be the main stream media instead of "another new medium". Conventional medium like, TV, Radio, Newspaper & Magazine will become the sub-medium that support the Internet. In the near future, advertiser will launch their advertising campaign online and reinforce by the conventional medium. Motorola China had done that to their lip-sync video online campaign featured two chinese back-dorm boys (famed by Youtube) and also with the coverage of TV. By doing this, Motorola is able to use the latest internet youth trend to capture the eyes of the China's youngster into Motorola's latest "youth orientated" mobile phone. Also Coca-Cola, GM, Nokia and etc are using internet advertising to gather bigger coverage and reach toward the target group. Lastly, Google will be the biggest winner in these new phenomenon, Google revenue up by 95% (compare to 2004) in 2005 and 79% (compare to Q1 2005) in Q1 2006 worth $1.53 billion. How much it will increase by end of 2006? Moral of the story? Go grap the Google's share now! :) Source: Advertising Age - Digital
