[Technology] HP dv2000 notebook.......sux!!
Recently I had purchased a HP dv2000 notebook, yeah the one that you saw from the Singapore TV Commercial. It's a beautiful and cool notebook that comes with Altec Lansing integrated speaker, Hi-Gloss LCD Screen, HP QuickPlay to play and view multimedia files w/o boot up the Windows. Everything seems so fine on the paper. However, the day I received the notebook, it's the beginning of the tragedy :(
Day 1
When I opened the box and took the dv2000 out, there was no display and I had to called the customer careline and sent to service centre by myself.
Full Story after the jump....
After one week
I got the dv2000 back, it was working fine and I am very happy with the performance and multimedia capabilities of the notebook. But....another two weeks passed, the harddisk crashed on me! I had to send in to service centre again and HP service centre claimed they do not backup the data for client, I have to go back and connect the SATA HDD to my PC and backup. After that, drove for 30 mins again and passed the dv2000 to HP service centre. I called the service centre and they told me the notebook was ready, therefore I drove for another 30 mins AGAIN and collect the notebook, tried to boot it up and it works during the collection. Got back home and tried to copy the backup files to the notebook and found out there was no sound! These are what I found out:
1. Sound Driver was not installed, I tried the hp website and found the driver's link but no file to download.
2. all the HP softwares (e.g. HP Quickplay, LightScribe, PC Recovery and etc) were gone. Can you imagine the notebook comes with no CDs at all!
3. HP service centre is sucks! The client service ppl works like robot, just issue the forms and report.
4. HP's products are not user friendly, DIYable. I can't find any compatibility and open concept in both software and hardware of this product.
Today
I had to resend the blaady notebook back to service centre and asked them send to KL and install the OEM "out-of-box" version of Windows. HP, you had sux a big time to me and I will put you sit side by side with Mr. Microsoft on the same bench. What say you?

Aw man. I bought a DV2000 as well in late '06 and I'm sending it in for repairs for the 4th time!! The first time my backlight burned out during my week of finals, then my cd drive stopped working/would pop out randomly, the 3rd time(2 weeks after getting it back) my backlight burned out again and they still hadn't fixed my cd drive, but replaced the motherboard(which would have cost me the price of a new computer had I not had the service plan.) My most recent problem(dropped it off 2 days ago) has been the cd-drive yet again as well as strange whirring noises I had never heard before(kinda like those beeping sounds that accompany random TV broadcasting tests that come on in the middle of you show.) Glad I had the service plan from Best Buy but nonetheless- it's ridiculous! Absolutely switching it for another computer that's not as crappy as this one.
Dear Anonymous,
Thanks for sharing, I know how it feels. My DV2000 was bought by the company, therefore it can't be switched. If I had a choice, I will definitely change it to other brands that don't sux, MacBook is my favourite as personal laptop now.
I was so disappointed and angry that thinking of write a long email to Mark Hurd, but it's pointless. LOL!
